Coach Bash and Coach Rodney founded the San Diego Quarterback Academy to give young quarterbacks the coaching, mentorship, and community they need to reach the next level. Together, they built the Academy into a national partner of QuarterbackMagazine.com, with one mission: developing quarterbacks year-round, with no offseason.
QB Coach Sebastian Bash brings over a decade of experience coaching quarterbacks at every level, from youth to NFL and CFL players. His focus on fundamentals, leadership, and mindset helps quarterbacks maximize their potential without altering their natural ability.
QB Coach Rodney Thompson, a San Diego native and St. Augustine High School product, brings Division I experience to the Academy — he played quarterback at Northern Illinois University in the MAC. A pro-style quarterback known for his command of the position, Rodney gives young quarterbacks invaluable insight from his own journey through the game.
The QB Academy is built on family. Every quarterback trains under multiple private QB coaches in a tight-knit group where quarterbacks push and support each other toward one goal — reaching their full potential.

The San Diego Quarterback Academy is proud to have been the first QB Academy to help develop homegrown talent Zachary Benitez, who has gone on to earn multiple college offers and commit to San Jose State University. Zach’s journey — from local San Diego prospect to Division I commit — is a testament to what’s possible when raw talent meets the right coaching, community, and development. Every session — whether small group or one-on-one — is built around fundamentals, film study, and reps that carry over to real games, not just drills that look good on video.

Every great quarterback starts somewhere, and we build that foundation early. Our youth program (ages 5 and up) focuses on proper throwing mechanics, footwork, and confidence — taught in a way that’s fun and age appropriate, not overwhelming. Small-group sessions keep the coaching personal, so young quarterbacks get real attention while building habits that carry them into middle school and beyond.
For middle school and high school quarterbacks, training shifts toward sharpening mechanics, reading defenses, and building the physical and mental toughness the position demands. Our coaches work on footwork refinement, decision-making under pressure, and film study — helping quarterbacks compete for starting roles and stand out to coaches and recruiters across San Diego County.
Quarterbacks at the college and professional level need training that matches the speed and precision of the game they’re playing. Sessions focus on advanced footwork, timing, film breakdown, and the small mechanical adjustments that make the biggest difference at the highest levels.
